Rossendale Biomechanics

About Ross

Why I coach the way I do. The story behind Rossendale Biomechanics: how years of chronic pain and dead-end fixes led to biomechanics, and why every plan I write starts with how your body actually moves.

My Story

TRAINING THAT RESPECTS HOW THE HUMAN BODY IS BUILT.

I’m Ross, a Level 3 personal trainer and Functional Patterns certified trainer based in Rossendale and online worldwide. I help people improve chronic pain, poor posture, muscular imbalances, recurring injuries and overall health and fitness by addressing the root cause, not just the symptoms.

My route into biomechanics started with my own problems. After years of conventional gym training, I found myself stronger in the gym but increasingly dealing with chronic joint pain, muscular imbalances and recurring injuries. It eventually made me question whether the way I was training was actually improving the way my body functioned outside of the gym.

For over a decade I went round the mill with chiropractors, physiotherapists, massage therapists and almost everything in between. Things would improve temporarily, but the pain always came back or another problem appeared somewhere else. I was constantly treating individual symptoms without ever understanding why my body kept developing them.

That search eventually led me to Functional Patterns, a system that addressed the question I felt nobody else was asking. How is the human body actually designed to move? It completely changed the way I looked at training. Instead of viewing the body as a collection of muscles to strengthen or stretch in isolation, I began to see it as a connected biomechanical system and to orient my training around the fundamental movements we evolved to perform as humans. Standing, walking, running and throwing.

Applying those principles to my own body has had a profound effect on me. I got out of chronic pain, my posture and movement improved, and I began building a body that feels stronger, more resilient and genuinely more athletic as I get older.

My coaching is now built on biomechanics first. Every plan starts with an assessment of standing posture, gait and breathing mechanics, then works back to the strength, stability and movement patterns your body is missing.

Whether you want to improve your posture, move without pain, rebuild after injury or raise your athletic ceiling, the process is the same: assess, correct, load, repeat.

The aim is to build a body that functions better as a whole and becomes more capable and resilient over time.
